Thinking about the “singularity”, the point at which our technology becomes more intelligent than us is the reason for this blog site. Coverage of it and some of it’s possible constituents from AI (artificial intelligence) to smart robots varies in the media from humans lose scenarios, e.g. the end of human jobs if not human life, to sheer indifference. So it’s difficult to get a gauge on where we are with the singularity, if or when we might get there or not.
The article below by Alan Winfield, Professor of Electronic Engineering, UWE Bristol in The Guardian gives a superb summary of where we with the singularity and what we need to think about in regards to it.
